I'm a teacher, and I disagree.

Speak for yourself. I love having my kids home and getting to spend time with them. We have no schedule and can do whatever we want. I hardly see them during the school year.

Unless they added days to the school year, having many, shorter breaks spread throughout the year would not be easier for child care. There need to be more subsidies to make camp affordable, but I like having a long stretch of time for kids to work on outside the classroom skills.

Um, my kids— and pretty much all the kids I know— love summer break. As a SAHM, I love it too. Lots of time to do fun stuff with my kids. I wouldn’t mind if it was longer.
For working parents, I get why it’s stressful of course.
But it’s false that “no one likes it.”

I love summers! I get to spend time with my kids doing fun activities, lounging at the pool, taking them to museums.

My kid is just starting kinder so feel free to take what I say with a grain of salt since I haven’t experienced it yet but I used to think I’d like year ‘round school. Now I see the APS calendar and there are so many days off sprinkled in. We also have days off to celebrate the holidays of at least 3 different religions. My family is no religion, so these are just more random days off for us. If summer were shorter, the school year would have more of these days off just plunked into the middle of the week. Or weeks off just in whatever month. At least in the summer you can plan a long stretch of camp.

I agree it's too long. I feel like we should have 6 weeks like most of Europe does, and maybe longer/more frequent breaks during the year.

I truly feel it’s too short. I’m a single parent and work full time, but I feel like I’m cramming so much in just a few weeks. :/

My sister, who is very wealthy, says she loves summer because her kids can really perfect their swimming…in the private pool with a private coach. Ok…
