It's been a few years, but we had tenants in DC who were both FSU grads. They eventually married. One was from Florida, the other wasn't. Both LOVED the school and are doing quite well professionally. Both are also great people.

We haven't had a bad situation with the housing. I would say FSU had the best of my college kids (my daughter was in the Honors dorm Landis). Getting to Tallahassee is expensive from DC area. There is one direct flight per day. It's hard to get rides to Jacksonville or Orlando unless your freshman knows people with a car.
Overall, i think it's hard to go to Florida from this area. It's very greek and my child found the diversity lacking (I know this is super obvious but I feel like my child didn't truly understand this) and just found the people superficial. The campus is beautiful. So manicured and nice. I don't feel like the classes have challenged my child at all though.

In state, combined with instate scholarships, the school is incredibly cheap. Its not surprising there financial aid office isn't good.
