Our car came with the prep kit for the one missing feature. The sticker price noted that the associated cost had been removed (-$325 for X was a line item). When the chip becomes available, we just have to pay the fee and the dealer willl pop it in.

GREED, the dealers are squeezing every last penny from vehicles they are selling, usually by over-accessorizing vehicles with tire/wheel packages as the auto manufacturers are sticking to their pricing and allowing dealers to accessorize vehicles to make a little extra. That little extra can be upwards of $8-10k with tires/wheels, lift kits, light kits, stereo and speaker upgrades.

Be mindful of dealer upselling tactics

If you don't care about the higher price, its really just the trouble of finding a make/model/trim package that is acceptable to you. No easy task.

its kind of like a friends and family discount - it offers cars slightly below MSRP and no need to haggle. Its up to dealers to honor it but we were being picky with the vehicle we wanted.

we just bought a car last week (through Ford Dealership). Dealer wasn't able to take my XPlan pricing but they got me exactly what I wanted and contacted me as soon as it arrived on the truck. IF you need a car you need a car.

I have been reading these threads and watching the market as I am in the market for a new (used) car. Aside from paying a high price, is there any downside from buying a car now?
