Stairlifts are meant for people, not packages, and some may not be able to securely transport anything other than people. This is something to explore with vendors.

When steps become an issue due to infirmity it may be time to reconsider living arrangements. Falls on stairs can be fatal, and as people age they sometimes to develop challenges with balance and depth perception which make navigating stairs a significant hazard.

While exercise is indeed a good thing as a general principle, when a form of exercise becomes dangerous it's not a good idea any more. With regard to stairs, eliminating or minimizing them is why people aging in place often relocate to single-level environments, whether a SFH or a condo, or consider installing an elevator or stairlift.

Thank you for giving a relevant and useful reply. The rest of aholes…what’s wrong with you all? I am reading this because I have elderly ILs who can use this info. They both are in their 80s.

If you're looking to help people who can't physically lift things up stairs due to age, the linked shopping cart is still going to be a problem. Dumb waiter is what you want.

We’ve got 20 steps up to our house. We get everything delivered, and tip well. 🤷‍♀️

Same, and I was slightly nervous… but I promise you you get used to it really fast, and it will help keep you active! Now I think nothing of it. Sure taking the groceries up is a slight pain, but I used to live in a walk up apartment so up a flight stairs in your own home is nothing. I move everything from the garage to the base of the stairs at once, and then a few trips to get all upstairs, no problem.

I live in a house with high cielings, therefore a lot of stairs. Just today I was thinking how nice it is to have to climb stairs. Even that small amount of exercise going up and down probably a dozen and a half times a day is better than nothing.

My DHs step mom is 60 and lives normally in a ranch house. She huffs and puffs going up and down my stairs and i'm thinking lady, you need to exercise! This is pathetic!!

Oh no I think your stairs might be making you an a-hole.

After a week you won’t even notice it.

Unless you're decrepit, it would be good exercise to carry stuff up and down stairs, as long as line of sight is clear.

Moving to house where main level on 2nd floor. 20 steps in all..really think the carrying if things up will get old soon. I have to use the bannister myself.

Is there something like an Acorn that I can plunk packages, etc., in?
