I’m interested in the social aspect too! There’s also OBX and the MD shore.

My impressions:
- Cape Cod: gay or laid back/down to earth.
- Martha’s Vineyard: white money or black UMC/generational wealth/fame
- Nantucket: rich
- Block Island: not really a thing here?
- Ocean City: kids on a budget

You do not have to pay this much to vacation there, or MV unless maybe you need a 10 room house with a pool in the backyard, etc.

This is what I was coming to say, but I don't have kids and can stay in a small inn with my husband.

Plus, planning is key. Book before New Years, or late fall of the previous year. Which is what many people have to do for beach towns on the east coast no matter how 'posh' they may be.

If you can compare Martha's Vineyard to Bethany or OB, you don't get it. There is no comparison. Yes, it's expensive. It's an island.

You say oh I've never been to New England but I hear it's lovely. What's your favorite place to visit? Then you have them tell you about it.

Are you serious?? That's crazy. Do those other places cost that much to rent in? We've never been.

+1 for the outer banks or MD/DE beaches. Assateague National Seashore is the nicest beach around imo.

If you have a basic understanding of geography, and aren't, say, suggesting that Maine is part of Canada or (still) part of Massachusetts then I really don't understand how you could embarrass yourself. If you have questions about what people like about trips to those places feel free to pursue conversation along those lines.

Huh? No one is born knowing about any of these places. They learn. If someone is impatient or snobby with you for not being an expert on block island vs cape cod vs nantucket, etc....move on. What is valuable about a person that would do that!

I don’t get it. Why does those even need to be a conversation? Vacation wherever you want based on thr normal things like budget, accommodations, local activities you are interested in

Please don't worry about the "social aspect". I am sure you can get some people to stereotype the difference between Nantucket and Block Island but for what point?

Hello! In the summers, we'd would go down to Florida or Alabama beaches. But after having moved here, all I hear about are these few!

I understand the geographic differences and that they're all summer beaches in New England, but I'm unsure of the social aspect. Basically, what does it say about people if they go to any of these given places in the summer? I feel like an idiot in these conversations.

Thanks in advance,
