There are WAY more expensive Nike's which she never hesitates to point out to me when she sees other kids wearing them. I always tell my kids they can have the amount I'm willing to pay and they can pay the difference.

I got my Nike Blazers at Zappos, but I saw them at Off Broadway for Buy 1, get one 50% off.

I LOVE sneakers and with the exception of technical running shoes all of my shoes are roughly $100 or less. Kids like the chunkier ones I think.

For colorful “vintage” sneaks try Zappos and look for “Classics” like Brooks, Puma, New Balance with “classic” added to the name. This means it’s a fashion sneaker and not a true running shoe.

Kids seem to like the late 80s / early 90s stuff - so classic Keds, classic all white Tretorn, those Reebok high tops with the 2 skinny velcro straps.

Vans slip ons in black and white check - except get the platform sole to make it more “cool” and less mom.

Give her a budget and tell her either she picks or you’ll buy her Sketchers.

One more thing - if she has smaller feet, kids sizes are cheaper. My daughters both wear 6.5 so can still do that. I think up to 7.5 still has kids options that often look the same as adult (Air Force 1s etc)

I will also add that give her a budget and let her spend her own money on top of that if she wants something more expensive

I live on the west coast - very ahead of trends - kids here are wearing Converse again. $50.

Slip on vans are an old trend here but maybe not there - I’d ask about that too. Same price point

Give her however much you are willing to spend and she can choose her sneakers.

That said, I wear $130. Brooks because they are comfortable for my feet. They last about a year and $13. a month toward shoes doesn’t seem bad.

My kids know better than to criticize when I spend money on their apparel. They get what they get, and within our budget, I take their preferences into account. Which means Asics in their preferred colors.

Your daughter shouldn't find anything "offensive" because of the price. She should be happy to get something new. Period. If "cheap" sneakers offend her, she can always get a job. She might feel differently about $90 vs. $200 sneakers after working months to get them.

We can’t possibly know what your 14 yo will find offensive at any given moment. Tell her to find a pair online and give her your max price. - mom of a 14 yo and have no idea what is in or out

Does this exist? Not for a sport, just for wearing to school, walking to the ice cream shop, etc. She wants ON sneakers or Nike Max, which seem kind of expensive for a teenager but what do I know...
