Yep I did this. There was a sign posted on a sign post. We buy cars! Called and they came and towed it away and gave me $50 for it.

You are stupid if you are paying for it. It’s the opposite. You should get paid to get it towed away. Junk cars still have value and there plenty of people that are willing to pay for them.

Posted on craigslist with clear “as is” information and see what you get. I posted for an old car with almost 200,000 miles that is running but needs lots of work and got over 100 replies! People were willing to show up that day and give me cash for the thing. You’ll probably get some people who want to come take it off your hands for at least a little bit.

I sold a 1960 VW bug with a 1957 engine. It didn't run and the guy was really happy to get it.

For anything newer, NPR or Habitat for Humanity are both quick and painless places to donate.

Just did this with my ancient Minivan. Sitting outside during the pandemic. Didn’t start, and keys didn’t work. Habitat for Humanity was happy to pick it up and tow it to auction, where it sold for $3,400, presumably for parts. They let you know for the tax deduction. Could not have been easier—only thing that took more than 5 minutes was finding the title.

Did I feel like they were towing away part of my kid’s childhoods? Perhaps, but still one of the most efficient transactions of my life.

Sell it to a scrapyard. They won't give you much, but, it is a 15 yr old truck that doesn't run. They will pick it up and short of parting the thing out yourself, it is probably the best you are going to do.

If so, where? Have a 2007 truck that needs work done. Where can I sell without paying to fix it first?
