I don't think this is some dark conspiracy by APS. I don't think the state has certified the scores. So the school districts beyond APS are waiting for that

My kid failed in 2019 by just a little bit. I was never officially notified nor did the teacher say anything about it re: remediation. I knew by reading the report, but it was never acknowledged by the school until the subject came up in the IEP meeting.

Also if your student did fail, it indicates to teachers that they did not master the skills for that grade level. So at the start of the year I’d be asking what types of interventions are available to address this identified deficit.

I’m an elementary special ed teacher. Is this a 3rd grader? So their first time taking the test? It’s hard to predict for 3rd graders, especially if your child really struggles with reading. I’m in 5th so have 2 years of data and really the students who typically don’t pass are lower proficiency English learners, because the test is basically passages and questions and the vocabulary is honestly too difficult for a student who is at a lower proficiency of English. Another group would be special ed students who are very below in their decoding or comprehension.

Your student took the SOL growth assessment at the beginning of the year last year. Did they pass that? If not, that’s an indicator they may not pass the SOL at the end of the year. Otherwise, most kids do pass. if you tell me the grade I can tell you the proficiency benchmarks for the growth assessment last year to help give you an idea. They were weird scores like 1247 etc depending on the subject.
