Pentagon used to have walk-in, no appointment needed renewals.

Fort Dietrich is also an option but I’m not sure how far out they’re scheduling (you have to call, can’t use the online system).

If you're COVID negative after the quarantine period and before your card expires, you can go to Fort Detrick (and possibly other installations) to renew your card during business hours if you're wearing your military uniform.

If positive and can't get in before your card expires, I'd work through your security office. I'm a civilian, but they initiated my visit to the Pentagon. (I had to go to Detrick for a reset and had previously looked up their website.) Maybe they have more information.

Will I be allowed to on-base in uniform without a CAC?

Several years ago, DH did not realize his military dependent ID was expired and the guard at the gate confiscated the card because it was expired. When he went to get a new card, he was told to complete the forms for a lost/stolen card, including a police report. He explained that the card was not lost or stolen and it was confiscated because it had already expired. It's been awhile so I don't remember how he eventually got a new card (DH is not on active duty, it was for the dependent military ID) but it was quite an ordeal.


You should have gone with him. Much easier as a dependent.

Use RAPIDS to find SOMEWHERE with available appointments.

I live in VA and work in DC but went to Moco to renew my CAC. Just go where there are slots.

I am stationed at a government agency that is not military or DoD. The active duty CAC has an expiration date (mine says JUL2022)

Active duty CAC card is expires in July. Made an appointment weeks ago to have the card renewed. Unfortunately, that appointment date is Day 6 of COVID isoloation/quarantine. Next available appointment is two weeks after my card expires. During the time frame of expired card and appointment, I will need to get on base and DC has an appointment in which I need to show the CAC card. Do you know whether the CAC card expiration policy has been extended? I have left several messages for the CAC card office.
