Agree with this. If you want a vehicle you’re going to keep do not get a jeep.

The answer is simple, switch cars and let him drive the Honda from now until October. Or get a quote for the exact problem and run the numbers for cost vs putting that into a new car. However, if the Honda is running great anyways than let it be a workhorse for another year or two and you can slowly shop around.

Find out how much the AC will cost to repair. Then come back and we’ll talk.

So if you decide to keep it your DH will let his wife drive without AC? WTF?

I mean, there are massive sanctions that are disrupting logistics, on top of post covid inventory issues. Good luck with that!

I've had two nissans and they were both great cars.

Better time isn’t coming. I have friends who postponed travel in 2020, then in 2021, and now the tickets are crazy expensive and there is a mess in many airports so they are postponing again. I just hope they travel in 2023 because they seem genuinely upset about not being able to.

The used car market is showing some signs of cooling demand, but there are few bargains to be had so long as new vehicles are not readily available. A dealer is going to continue to charge a premium to drive away a car when the alternative is to wait weeks for a new vehicle allocation to be delivered. Your car has de minimis value and a dealer would be lucky to get $500-1000 at wholesale auction.

Regardless, what’s wrong with the A/C? Has there been a leak test? Does. It need a recharge? Is it a port that needs replacement? Or does it need a rebuilt compressor? Knowing that will help inform your decision. And be careful not to buy into the sunk cost fallacy.

Either way, putting a deposit on a 2023 Honda might be the most prudent course of action right now, with 4-5 year old used cars (without warranty) selling for only a few thousand less than a new car. You should be able to get a 90 day rate lock on financing as a hedge against rising interest rates.

The AC just stopped working, and it has a few minor quirks (one door can't be unlocked, one window rolls up extremely slowly). I don't take this car on long trips (over 2 hours); instead, I rent a car. I travel a lot, so the rentals add up. My husband's car is fully electric, so that is just for local travel.

My husband does not want to put any more money in to this car(to fix the AC), but I told him that now is not a great time to buy.

What would you suggest? Just keep chugging along with this car, until the car market improves? Sell (*where* do I sell a very old car with no AC??) and then buy a new car? Sell the Pilot and then buy a newer used car? We are considering a Jeep or another Pilot for the replacement car. I definitely prefer an SUV - any size.

Thanks for any input!

Get a price to see how much the ac fix will be. Cars are so expensive and fixing the ac is probably worth it if you keep it for several more months. You can go to carmax and they will appraise it. There are usually other places around that can do the same (sometimes right outside of carmax). I would also look at the pathfinder (the newest model that doesn't have the cvt) and toyota.

I've d two pilots and loved them both. If you do the maintenance, they will last a very long time.
