Op here. Thanks for all the insights. My endocrinologist did test me for insulin resistance to see if I’d benefit from metoformin but my labs came back normal. I do have thyroid issues but I’m on medication for that and my levels are tested regularly.

I’ve struggled with this for years too and still do occasionally. The best thing is just not even keeping too much junk food around. So if I do end up bingeing, at least its on semi-healthy foods.

Also drinking a lot of water. When I feel like I have an irresistible urge to keep snacking I try to guzzle as much water as I can. I use the flavored liquid so it’s more enjoyable. And even if I do ultimately end up eating more food I get full from all the water.

Also being over restrictive with your diet can lead to bingeing. Doesn’t mean gorging on junk but giving yourself leeway for the occasional indulgence without feeling guilty. The guilt just perpetuates the cycle. So equally to important to work on having a healthy mindset around food in general.

Could you maybe work out when you feel like eating?

Also, if you drink a bunch of water too fast, youll feel sick and wont want to eat.

Keep all of that stuff out of your house to start.

OP never said she wasn’t bingeing out of hunger. She might have insulin resistance causing cravings and that bottomless pit feeling. I’m insulin resistant and until I started treating it I couldn’t stop bingeing. I felt out of control and didn’t understand what was wrong with me. Therapy, SSRIs, nothing worked until I started Metformin and stopped the insane eating and dropped 35 pounds in 8 months without trying.

Do you see a therapist? The food is just a symptom- you need to address the underlying issues.

Talk with your doctor and look into taking a semaglutide like Wegovy or Ozempic. They are the exact same drug, just different names. One is prescribed specifically for weight loss and the other is prescribed for diabetes, prediabetes and/or insulin resistance. One of the ways it works is it slows your digestion so that you feel full sooner. It also can help with feeling obsessive about food. I’ve been taking it for about 8 weeks and am down 15lbs. I’m just not as interested in eating and don’t think about it much. Some people have side effects like nausea, vomiting and constipation. I haven’t had those.

I have the same struggles. It’s a horrible way to live and affects every aspect of your life.

As often as I try. I’ve read books, made changes, but I always regress like it’s some horrible addiction and it consumes so much of my life, self esteem and social life. What helped you? I hate this about myself and can’t seem to move past it.
