I don't have any hope that these policies will change. Places like MoCo look to the CDC and I don't see the CDC changing. It is just so out of touch with reality. DH has a job offer in a different part of the country and honestly moving away from this hellhole of covid policies is a big plus for us when considering the job offer.

We won’t be testing anyone else at home, that’s for sure.

How would the daycare know about household cases, assuming you don’t have multiple kids going to the same center?

Siblings at daycare are common. But also if anyone were to get a positive PCR test, you are in the system. The state of MD is still contact tracing, I don’t know about DC at this point.

I would *hope* that something like this would go away now that the younger kids are eligible for vaccination. I think it can be problematic when a class has a mix of kids who are vaccinated/unvaccinated. This new variant seems to be circulating through houses pretty quickly, so it would be bad for the unvaxxed kids in the class if an exposed child attended only to test positive a day later. Then all the unvaxxed kids would have to quarantine too. 15 days is really long though.

Our daycare has changed to a test to return model, same as DCPS

The F daycare is this? Wow, had no idea people were still living like this.

It’s in MoCo.

That’s absurd. Who would ever report a positive in that situation?

My daycare (Alexandria City) has gone to 5-day quarantines with days 6-10 back in class but masked. Better than nothing, but I'd like to see 1) no exposure quarantine at all for vaxxed kids and 2) no more PCR testing requirement to return -- rapid tests accepted.

Our preschool has followed health dept guidance that vaccinated kids do not need to quarantine post-exposure. I don't expect that policy to change. Thankfully now under 5s will be able to benefit from the policy, too.

That's ridiculous. If my vaccinated MCPS elementary schooler can continue to go to school if I get COVID, why can't my vaccinated preschooler, perhaps with a daily negative test? I agree it would discourage me to test myself for mild symptoms.

Is anyone following what is going on with the state and local county health departments? Are there any parent groups advocating/asking questions about changes? Now that we are getting our kids vaccinated, when will the quarantines end and masks become optional?
