I always get one of the fabric books. They are good for reading or chewing on.

My two go-tos for gifts from 6mo-18mo are the Manhattan Skwish and Winkel toys. Both are really great toys for the 0-2 age set.

What an awful response. Who the hell wants tupperware for their kids birthday??

I mean to be honest, I think this is kind of genius. My toddler, now 2.5, would have loved stacking boxes with lids at any point in the last two years, ESPECIALLY if you found some kind in bright colors.

I give a book. They'll never remember it.

Someone got my kid that puzzle stool and it’s cute but return dangerous. If you step on one side, it tips over. Guess what toddlers do?

My kid loved the Melissa and doug wood barn with a selection of farm animals from schleich or safari ltd. The key is to get animals that can be sorted in different ways—like multiple sheep or pigs, which is nice for categorization and counting. A family unit (mama pig, daddy pig, baby pig) as they love to do family units; a dog and cat; etc. that got a lot of play—animals in the barn, animals out of the barn, sorting into different categories, lining them all up, etc.

Cheap rubber balls, the ones that are a little smaller than a soccer ball.

Ask, and if she's like "oh, I dunno," see if she would want that.

Wood stool for the bathroom with their name on it in puzzle pieces.

These are great ideas. Bath toys are always helpful. They already have a push toy, but the wood stool - my sister and I still have a wood stool wiht puzzle pieces for our names that one of my parent's friends got us when we were little. My kids use the stools. I don't think you can argue for a better present really, in fact I'm glad someone mentioned this - going to get one for my niece when she turns 1!

A large dump truck from Green Toys. Gender irrelevant.

Kids that age are obsessed with putting stuff in and out of bags and bins and containers (like a dump truck) and with transporting their possessions. The kid will be thrilled to put some toys in the truck and drive it around the house. And greentoys brand because those things can take a beating! My twins boys spent a not insignificant percentage of covid summer throwing various GreenToys brand vehicles off the porch onto the cement driveway over and over (they loved it, it wore them out and it required minimal involvement from me).

Ask, definitely. But I think the wrapping paper was my kid's favourite first birthday present?

Please ask her. Please. I wish more people would. And someone else may be getting a chair (that they may/may not want.)

I always recommend getting those Pottery Barn anywhere chairs with their name on it. They will get more use out of that than a toy or clothing item!
