What did you end up getting? (We have an EV and a PHEV)

I'd love to hear your thoughts OP in a few months as to how you like the EV! I'm in the exact same predicament right now and can't decide, but am leaning towards an EV.

Can you charge at home? If so, sounds like an EV is perfect for you -- your daily commute + kid ferrying adds up to not much more than 60 or 70 miles a day, and you could easily get three or four days per charge (more like three in the winter, but still). Other than some older used Leafs or used VW e-Golfs, almost any EV would have more than enough range for you.

Our primary car is a VW ID.4, and we use it for road trips (it's larger than our second car, which runs on gas) without much concern about range. The Bolt seems to charge fairly slowly, but any other new EV would rapid-charge fast enough to make it an option on road trips as well as for daily use.

Get an EV. A hybrid gets good gas mileage and has good range but gives up the other advantages of an EV like being more fun to drive, less maintenance, remote start (warm the car while it’s inside your garage).

You will lose some range driving at 70 mph and driving in winter but it sounds like even so you don’t need more than 100 miles or of range which almost any EV sold today will have.

At least test drive some EV if you can.

My ideal situation would be a small EV for commuting and a larger (SUV) hybrid or plugin hybrid for long trips. If you are keeping your gas car for long trips I think you'll be fine with an EV.

Since you have a 2nd car, EV. But check into range in cold weather . A plug-in hybrid might be more prudent depending on whether you could easily use your gas car if in doubt.

We got a Prius prime and really like it
Our old Prius didn’t plug in but this one does
We waited for it for 2 months and paid sticker price.
Some dealers wanted $5000 over but we just stuck to our guns

Curious if anyone has any input on my situation. I'm in the market for a new car and have been hoping to get an electric vehicle for some time now. I've been going back and forth between a fully electric vehicle and plug-in hybrid. Most of my driving is either commuting to and from work or taxiing my kids around. My work commute is about 15 miles each way, most of which are on the highway (~70 mph). Three to four evenings a week, I drive my kids to afterschool activities. Most of their activities are in town, but about once or twice a week I may need to drive to and from another city about 15 miles away, mostly highway miles. My spouse has a gas engine car that we typically use for longer trips we take as a family. Winters are fairly cold where I live so the mileage rage would decrease further from about December to March.

I like the flexibility of plug-in hybrids but one concern I have is that there are more parts to worry about breaking down. I typically keep my cars for a long time - my current car is over 15 years old. I'm not expecting to get as long out of an electric vehicle, but at least 10 years would be nice.

Also, does anyone have any experience trying to buy an EV lately? It's obviously not a buyer's market! I'm hoping to get on a waitlist for a 2023 model.
