+1 for the Branches line of books if your DC is still at that reading level. Requesting them from the library was a pain, but it was worth it because they finished each book so quickly.

Agree, my daughter who loves Dragon Masters loved The Last Firehawk as well.

I'm pp from a few seconds ago. I forgot to mention that my son found Wings of Fire too scary, even when I tried reading it out loud too him. In his mind, the series wasn't at all like Dragon Masters even though to an adult they seem pretty similar.

My rising second grader also loved Dragon Masters! Have you tried Ranger in Time? I don't know why exactly, but he is obsessed with those right now. They seem a tiny bit harder than Dragon Masters but not too hard and he likes the pacing of the stories. He's also been enjoying Pixie Tricks, which are from the same "Branches" imprint of Scholastic Books.

Start with the first 5 graphic novels for Wings of Fire! My son got into them the summer before first grade too.

Ohhhh, my rising first grader is devouring them right now. She wants to read Wings of Fire next, but that’s a big jump in reading levels. Have you tried Magic Treehouse, Zooey and Sassafras, and Rainbow Magic?

My rising second grader devoured the Dragon Masters series in the summer between K and 1. All through first grade, she's been trying to find the next series that she'll love. She's read a bit of Mia Mayhem, a bit of Kingdom of Wrengly, a bit of Ivy and Bean. a bit of Clementine, a bit of Jenny & the Cat Club, etc... but hasn't gotten hooked on anything. Any recommendations?
