Wondering if anyone has recent experience with Glen Haven Elementary School?

Or maybe you're thinking of Forest Knolls? That is a stellar elementary school. My two kids went there, but it's been a few years. Still have great memories of the teachers and the PTA-run events. The admin has been solid too.

This is the OP - yes, Forest Knolls is what I meant. Thank you. Glen Haven, Forest Knolls, and Pine Credt are the neighborhoods I’m looking at.

We live nearby and everyone I know has been pleased with each of the schools mentioned, but especially Forest Knolls.

We love Forest Knolls. Their popular principal was just appointed as the new principal at Little Bennett, unfortunately for FKES!

Flora Singer feeds to Sligo MS, then Einstein HS.
Glen Haven feeds to Sligo MS, then Northwood HS.
The South Four Corners part of Pine Crest feeds to SSIMS, then Northwood HS, whereas the rest of Pine Crest feeds to Eastern MS, then Blair HS.
They are all part of the Downcounty Consortium, so there is some choice possible for HS, but you are only guaranteed a spot at your home school.

There all interchangeable like most MCPS schools. Same teachers and curriculum even.

+1 MCPS schools all have the same curriculum and teachers. The same kid will do the same at any school.

"I'm not looking for posters to trash other schools, but to share their experience at their respective school."

Good luck with that on DCUM!

My kids went through Pine Crest a few years back, and the administration has since changed. But one thing we really liked about the split model (PC is grades 3-5, Montgomery Knolls is K-2) was that everything at the school was geared for the age group. The overall feel of the school was more serious, more mature--not in a negative way, it's still elementary school, but it seemed like the students learned independence and accountability. All the teachers were good with the upper grades because that's all they had at the school.

Pine Crest also has a Center for enriched studies, so some of the 4th and 5th graders are from outside the neighborhoods. If you're looking at homes, the Woodmoor neighborhood, which surrounds Pine Crest, is lovely with a strong community spirit.

These schools are all in close proximity. Both Forest Glen and Pine Crest pyramid to SSIMS and Glen Haven to Sligo. I'd like to buy in this area and think each school and immediate neighborhood has its virtues and really are very similar. But would love to hear from CURRENT or RECENT parents of these schools what you thought of the following for the respective school your DC when to:

- Bullying and tolerance of bullying
- Administration (how engaged / responsive the Principal and Vice Principal were)
- Teacher quality overall (recognize there are always outliers)
- Parent community

I'm not looking for posters to trash other schools, but to share their experience at their respective school.[i][u]

About me: My children are in grades 3 and 4 and are competent, average achieving kids. I want my kids to be in an environment where they can do their best and develop their strengths.
