This has been going on for a while. In DC I'm registered Democrat because that's where the elections are decided.

I did this in upstate NY with closed primaries. In the area where I grew up, it was heavily Republican, so really most elections were decided in the primaries. So I registered as. republican and voted in the primary for the best republican, then voted in the actual election for the Democrat chosen by the rest of my party.
It was the best option for me.

I'll admit, I never thought about this until I started reading the posts and reasons. I'm sad I missed the opportunity to vote last week in VA during the GOP primary.
So far, everything I'm seeing makes sense. If it's an open primary, vote for the least toxic, least MAGA-centric GOP candidate. Pick a candidate who will likely be defeated by the Democratic candidate. Stack the deck, so to say, I suppose.
A few people said they even do this for their state's closed primaries. They are registered GOP voters to help influence the candidate selected but then vote straight Democratic tickets after the primaries.
