Would Saw count as a slasher movie?

Op here:
I enjoyed this movie a lot and I’m not a typical horror movie person. I don’t think it’s a slasher movie. (It’s a requirement of the assignment).

Black Christmas is also very good (the original one) for more plot and depth.

As a PP mentioned, the original Halloween is great too.

I will never forget Sleepaway Camp.

This looks perfect. Is it a slasher or just horror?

It’s a zombie horror film.

Slasher: “ slasher film is a genre of horror films involving a killer stalking and murdering a group of people, usually by use of bladed tools.”

Personally I would never have guessed you’d find Freddy Kruger movies in the “slasher with depth” category, so I’ll suggest Carrie.

In grad school for MSW, we had to watch Halloween to analyze the M Myers childhood scenes.
I don't know the Nightmare films so I don't know how comparable that would be.

One of my kids is taking a class where films are analyzed. Nightmare on elm street needs to be analyzed with another slasher movie. Trying to find one to suggest that’s got enough meat to it that makes analyzing it interesting. Thanks!
