We did something like this in our kitchen, with a blue/green (Sherwin Williams Seaside color) for the bottom cabinets and an off-white for the top cabinets.

Agree some kind of grey with a blue undertone for the cabinets. I’m confused about what material you are considering for the floor. Can you elaborate?

I would go warm slate blue on the cabinets to match the grey and white tones (and mixed white and stainless appliances). A true slate blue would also warm up the gray. Cozy.

What is the light situation in your kitchen? Navy is a great color for cabinets, but can be very dark if there is not much outside light coming in. In those situations, you often see navy base with white uppers.

BM Hale Navy for cabinets. Why does she not want wood look for floors. Some of the wood look LVP is very nice looking. You could do a greige color floor.

I was thinking about that. Maybe not “whimsical”, but something more bold. I think the long-term kitchen will be white, but an interlude might be fun.

I have reached my end with our outdated kitchen. We are planning a major reno, but with the pandemic price increases we have decided to wait a few more years to accumulate more cash. In the meantime, I am willing to put up to $2k in costs and a ton of elbow grease into putting a new face on the kitchen. I am relatively handy and can pull off these projects.

There are three projects:

- New, inexpensive ($3-4/sq ft) vinyl plank flooring (removing 30 year old linoleum)
- Painting the original mid-60s cabinets
- Painting the walls

Constraints:

- DW does not want a wood floor look. Flooring is likely to be marble-looking or gray.
- Appliances work, so are staying. Oven/Stovetop and Dishwasher are white. Fridge is stainless steel.
- Countertop is not being replaced. Speckled white with metal “framing”.

My thought is that going traditional white for the cabinets won’t look good with the appliances and countertop. Thoughts on any good color combos that you’ve seen? TIA.
