Kids are out of the house with an adult (parent, grandparent, babysitter, nanny, whoever) and the other parent is there to manage the unload.

I moved with an 18 month old. For the big furniture I had stuck where I wanted it on on labels throughout the house.. I also got a lot of point people to help me out. You should try to get some friends your family to help you

We hired a sitter to take our kids away for the day. She was our previous nanny and well known to our family. They were 7 and 9 at the time. We also had someone watch the dog. Moving from a 3 bedroom house we lived in for 10 years to a 4 bedroom house a mile away was an 8 hour ordeal!!! So glad the kids and dog were gone all day!

This is fine. They were excited to "help" so the nanny facilitated their activity. Did they get much done, no. Did they feel involved and like they had some influence over their new space, yes.

We’ve always moved during the middle of the week (cheaper than a weekend move) and the kids were in daycare/preschool so we had care covered. But we don’t have local family to help.

We had our nanny come and take them to a local playground and then got ice cream to keep them busy and out of the house for as long as possible. Was just easier to get furniture settled without them hanging around. Then we unpacked their rooms and the playroom so when they arrived they could feel a little more settled.

If you don’t have a nanny definitely get a sitter or grandparent.

My parents took them for the weekend.

We had grandparents come with us on moving day. They entertained the kids outside in the yard while DH and tag teamed overseeing the movers.

I stuck them in a room with tablets.

Hire a babysitter or find some kind of care so the kids are not underfoot.

You need to be there to supervise the unloading. Even though the boxes will have labels, on the day of the move it's still kind of chaotic and they will put things down willy nilly if you don't tell them which room things go. Also, you wan to be present in case of damages, etc.

1st move with 1 toddler- kid and parent went to local grandparents for the unload. Other parent took off and managed the unload

2nd move with a 3 yo and 7yo- 2 kids went to camp, 1 parent worked (relocation), other parent managed the unload.

I have 2 kids and we will be moving into a home soon. What have you all done when the movers came to unload the truck into your house?

Do you and the kids hang out somewhere? They are too young to help and need supervision.

Just curious.
