I just had to go cold turkey. There was no slowly cutting down, it was all or nothing. It was the best thing I ever did

Stopping sugar for me is one day of cravings, second day habit cravings. Third day, done.

Can you add healthy fats and protein? This keeps my blood sugar steady. Getting enough sleep helps with everything too.

Good luck

I get the sugar free stuff with stevia. It’s not as good so I’m not prone to overeat, but gives me an option for a treat.

Don't let yourself get too hungry.

Don't deny yourself all sweets; the more forbidden something is, the more we want it.

Be mindful of how you feel after you eat sweets. Sometimes I notice that I feel great because it satisfied a true craving, sometime I feel not great because I just shoved some sugar, fat, and carbs into my mouth for no good reason. That helps me think the next time about whether I really and truly want something.

If there is something sweet that you really can't regulate, don't buy it. For me it is rice crispy treats, chocolate chip cookies, and Phish Food ice cream. I guess I do have those sometimes but I know going into it that I am just going to eat them all so I don't buy a lot. But chocolate ice cream, other baked goods, hard candies, dark chocolate, etc. I can regulate so those I keep in the house.

I would bet that you aren't "addicted" to sweets as much as you just have a habit of eating them. First, stop bringing them into your house. Next, find a substitute. I love salty snacks, but I've started making little portions of cut fruit or veggies, nuts, yogurt, or other healthy snacks. You tend to grab what's easy, so make those things easy!

1) Don't be a woman in the 2nd half of your cycle.
2) Definitely no sweets for breakfast. Once you get started on sweets it is difficult to stop.
3) No sweets in the house!
4) I'd recommend just quitting all sugar. Go cold turkey. The only way I can do it.

Sugar is extremely addictive for some people. Others have metabolic issues that manifest as sweet craving.
If you're in the first category - cut it cold turkey, there are no other way around it, it has to be treated as any other addiction, I believe there is something like AA for sugar addicts
For metabolic issues - key is to eat properly - a lot of protein, whole grains and veggies, no sweets when hungry, no sweets for breakfast. Look into pre-diabetic or any other diet/plan that focuses on keeping you blood sugar levels steady.
Good luck

This is a good answer. The majority of will power is making the thing that tempts you more difficult.

You have to cut it out completely. Just go cold turkey, which will suck, but it's much easier to just not eat sweets/desserts than it is to "just have a few bites" because you'll compulsively eat more. If you go a while without eating sugar, you'll lose the cravings. I'm pretty lucky to not have a sweet tooth, so I don't consciously limit sugar, but I will go weeks on end without eating anything sweet, and when I do, it's almost too sweet.

But I do feel this way about Cheez-Its. I can't just eat a couple, I end up eating half the box in one sitting. So I don't buy them and when I eat them, it's maybe 2-3 times a year.

I love sweets, but moderation is the key. Treat yourself 2 times a week.

I was like you and then when I was pregnant I developed gestational diabetes. I basically had to cut out all treats so I could use my carb allowance for regular food.

It was like a switch flipped. Even after I had my kids, my sweet tooth never came back. I don't think that's a practical strategy for most people but it worked for me.

Same here OP. I am truly addicted. I can’t resist any sweets and I crave sugar all day long. It’s terrible. I’m even considering doing some kind of therapy/hypnosis/alternative treatment because I am that desperate to stop eating so much sugar!

I have the most incredible sweet tooth, can't say no to anything sweet. How do you fight the urge? I really need a strategy to cut down on my sugar intake.
