Maybe go when the Poe house is having an event. There may be more normal activity/police on alert then.

Damn, that's dark. I was looking at the map and I could get them to the UM Medical Center safely going straight down Pratt or Lombard and then skirting around the hospital to Fayette. It's gets weird those last two blocks but would probably be fine during the day. I was there because a loved one was in hospital there for a few days and stayed at a place on Howard. The whole vibe can change in a block in that area.

Same. Two white girls in puff coats. There were a bunch of vacant blocks on the way so I was paying attention, but I've lived in cities my entire adult life so I was feeling alert but okay. We turned down a block and suddenly everyone was out on stoops and a bunch of cars driving slowly down the block. A guy said hey to us, checked in to make sure we were headed to the Poe house and then pointed us in the right direction. Baltimore City should be paying that block a tourism stipend.

You could always check out the grave. It’s right next to UMD School of Law.

Drive to the EAP house and park close to it. I visited it in 1999 and it is situated in the projects. There were people hanging around and they commented that we were there to see the Poe house. I didn't feel unsafe, but it was strange to have our intentions "sorted out" by the locals. There were other people who looked like us who were clearly there to buy dope.

I don’t even think the Inner Harbor area is terribly safe anymore. Agree with PP that the last few years have not been kind to Baltimore.

I took a bus to the Edgar Allan Poe house years ago and didn’t feel safe in the neighborhood. No way I’d walk there. Sorry.

I wouldn’t. We we’re in Baltimore last weekend and we couldn’t believe how much the city has deteriorated. It’s really sad and no I didn’t feel very safe and we were near the Inner Harbor.
