That was in 1996 (26 and 25 him). We were married in 1998. It's been a whirlwind.

2nd date but didn't talk about it until the fourth month of dating. Married almost a year to day of first date. Been extremely happily married for 15 years now.

I knew right away. It took him about three more years, in which he cheated on me, broke up with me, and then went out with the person he cheated with. Then he came back and told me he realized that I was the one.

Reading this it doesn’t sound like it was a good idea, but we’ve been married for over 20 years now.

Second date

The first time I saw him, the word "husband" popped into my head. It was so weird. He's not my type physically, I didn't know the guy - I don't know what that was. Apparently he had a similar thing happen when he first met me.

We didn't date right away, though. We hung out as friends for about six months. He kept asking me to go out with him but it didn't feel right. I felt like once we started dating, that was probably going to be that, and I just didn't want that yet. Not like we were young - we were in our mid/late 30s!

I think I just knew that us getting together would really spell the end of the life I was actually leading at the time - he was more settled, liked to stay home, didn't like going out to bars or parties (or to hike or bike ride, it wasn't all debauched stuff).

When we did finally get together, it took all of a month for us to move in together. We got married about two years later. Been together 15 years now. I was right about the compromises to lifestyle, and also that he'd be a good, stable husband to me.

So I guess that's to say: it wasn't like I had some flash that he was "the one" and was going to whisk me off and make my dreams come true. More, that he was someone I could have a life with as my partner.

Over two years. But I met him when I was 17 and a freshman in college. I was young and stupid then.

He knew on the first date. I started to think about it at about 6 months and was sure by 18 months. I need to live with someone before I pin too many hopes on them.

A couple days really. But we dated for 2 years before getting engaged. But within days/weeks we were talking about long-term plans.
