She’s not running. But it’s interesting that folks that maybe were happy to vote Cheh are now saying that candidates with kids in private school is a bridge too far. It’s funny.

None of these local guys really align left/right/center etc. Obviously all are Democrats anyway. The best descriptions I've read, these are all meant to be both positive and negative

Thomas - Mayoral yes man
Frumin - Midwestern liberal
Goulet - Bought-off budget wonk

I think Frumin is most similar to Cheh, left but with sense. Thomas will vote with the mayor, who generally was similar to Cheh but with fewer ideas. Goulet is a bit unknown, but will pay for whatever programs he votes for, including surely whatever DFER wants.

I don't know how we draw lines in really local races, as the candidates don't really have stances on national issues that delineate left/right wingers (abortion, gun control, ...)

My breakdown is
Frumin: wants to build more housing in the Ward on the corridors of major avenues (not a total YIMBY though), supports public schools over charters, supports increasing bus and bike lanes especially to get to the new MacArthur HS (which he supports as well)
Goulet: more NIMBY, pro-charter school, has promised to block both the new ES and HS (though it's not something he can really do), not a fan of more bus and bike lanes in the ward
Thomas: probably the most NIMBY, but agrees with the mayor on almost all issues (except he has said he wants to block the schools as well for some reason)

They all want to increase the size of the police force. They all are against the tent cities downtown. Goulet is the only one who supports trying to renovate RFK stadium to bring the commanders back, which I think is a money-hole and terrible idea tbh...

I'm voting for Frumin because I think the Ward needs the new schools. Thomas seems nice and I do like the mayor, but Frumin has more experience in the Ward as well. The way Goulet's campaign has been run would not make me want to vote for him even if we agreed on more things.

Thomas is pretty heavily aligned with Bowser. If you're voting for her, he might be a good choice for you.

Frumin maybe wasn’t a leftist but he now has aligned himself with the most leftist, fringe elements to form his coalition. This isn’t like a presidential race where he can tack back to the middle for the general. This is the election. It doesn’t matter anymore what he used to be, this is who he is now because this is his coalition.

I think Frumin is to the left personally. But he's a pragmatist and wants to get thing done, so he works for concensus and common group.

Goulet's campaign money is troubling.

I was Ward 2 until recently so didn’t have a chance. But, no, I would not have voted for her on this basis. I can’t imagine a more hypocritical position honestly. I would never trust someone w/ my children’s education who won’t put their children in the same position.

Goulet is telling people whatever he thinks they want to hear. He told the NIMBYs one week that he was against the HS one week and then told another group something completely different the other week. Given that the HS is scheduled to open just months after the new CM will take office, what he is promising the NIMBYs is insincere. Frumin is not the most solid person around but appears to have convictions that are a little more solid than Goulet.

Is Mendo in any danger of losing?

I'm down to Goulet, Frumin and Thomas for Ward 3. I don't want the council to move any farther to the left especially if Mendo loses to Palmer. That being said, is Frumin to the left of Cheh's politics?
