I rolled through a stop sign once and other driver without a stop sign caused accident according to eye witness. Of course we each paid to fix own car.

She was speeding, not looking at road, did not honk or hit brakes. I saw her and I actually tried to accelerate by her as my nose already in front but she plowed me in middle of car.

We're in Maryland and my anecdotal experience (ours and our friends) is that each driver's insurance company pays for the repairs on their respective cars. Most recently we had this when my wife was rear ended at a red light. Doesn't matter, the drivers file claims with the own insurance companies and, usually, their rates go up accordingly.

The only exception we had was when the police were on the scene, filed a report and issued a moving violation to the other driver. I think that's the only way to put yourself in the clear.

I have the record I think. My last six vehicles were totaled or stolen.

Jeep, Mercedes, Mercury, Chevy, GMC and BMW. Last one happened a week ago.

I was not liable all six. Just bad luck.

Was speaking with a friend last night and the subject of car accidents came up. We discovered that between us, we know 4 people who were involved in crashes in the past 18 months. Strangely, even though the circumstances of each were different, no fault was assigned in any of the cases. What does that do to our insurance if no one is ever assigned fault? Does everyone's insurance go up?

I thought that was odd. Is that the way it goes now? Just wondering if anyone else has any anecdotal data.
