We were never separated out back in the 80s.
I remember our teacher talking to us about periods and showing us pads. We were separated by gender.
I don’t have strong feelings either way except I don’t think it will be good for kids if their parents didn’t discuss things ahead of time. My daughter already got her first period when they had the menstruation discussion in school. She told me how it was the first time many of her friends heard about it and this was confirmed by parents. Some of their parents spoke to me later and said how our kids talked after and my daughter told their kids, her friends, her experience in a helpful way. I’m not sure all of them would be as open if it was mixed gender. But I think parents should be discussing at home and not rely on schools for everything.
