Get an advocate. Most school districts offer this as a free service.

A parent volunteer likely has zero clue what goes on outside of the copy room or her child’s classroom. I guarantee you the school has providers for sped, speech, ot, pt, psychology, social work…all the usual suspects. If her child doesn’t utilize the resources though, she’s have no idea they existed.

They either have itinerant providers who will do the service hours at the home school or they will send her elsewhere. My kid never attended his home school because of the number of service hours. The placement should be clear in the IEP docs.

I wouldn't worry at all about what the neighbor said she's not a part of the special education department. School staff made the IEP and it's legal document.

These are very common ES accommodations. Of course there’s a staff who comes to the school (they likely serve several schools) who will provide those services. Have you looked at the website: https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/uploadedFiles/departments/special-education/21.08.30%20MCPS%20Programs%20and%20Services%20Locations%20for%20Spec%20Ed%20Students.pdf

Why would you listen to this neighbor?

Talk to the school directly. Don’t go by hearsay.

Yes, OP here. Public school. IEP meeting done at home ES since DD graduated from PEP. Heard from neighbor who volunteers at school and knows a lot of the staff personally since some of them live in neighborhood that she doubts that the IEP (I told her the services DD qualified for) can be implemented since they do not have those resources.

OP, you might get more helpful answers if you tell us the actual situation.

OP - I'm assuming you are in public, no? Then call the Compliance Officer for the County. That was the only way we made our public comply with the IEP

I haven't heard of any elementary school that doesn't have at least a part time speech therapist.

OP here. What about the special education services if there is no special education teacher?

Then they would have to pay for an outside provider, I believe. Or have someone come over from a different school.

You mean they don’t have anyone that comes to the school at all to fulfill these roles? Some schools have only part time staff in these disciplines.

What if the IEP for K that my DD (current PEP student) got for our home ES cannot be followed since they do not have the staff needed(e.g. no speech therapist, no OT, etc), will I have to enroll her somewhere else?
