Was there as well. Not a fan of Lynn Harris to begin with, but OMG that speech was awful. And she was clearly campaigning for reelection. The other speeches were terrific and more than sufficient. She just wouldn't stop. It was painful to watch.

Harris isn't up for reelection

+1
Cringeworthy. You could literally hear the audience get restless about halfway through the super long speech (that was after multiple speakers already). Terrible.

Who spoke at Wootton? I saw Smondroski last week and thought she did a fine job, better than the keynote speaker.

Lynn Harris

I am always surprised how many teachers on back to school night announce that they were MCPS students. I guess some do come back.

Same recruitment message at Churchill. Seriously, know your audience. The MCPS wage levels for positions is too low for the cost of living in Montgomery County. Churchill families are not putting children through college to come back to work for MCPS.

Interesting. I was curious if it was just Harris but it sounds like all of them. It was just so tone deaf and out of place. She even said “we just raised the sub pay!” As I’m sitting there thinking thank god I am done with MCPS. My parents were watching the live stream and just found it odd. Let them celebrate without MCPS bullshit politics.

They're promoting the new "Grown Your Own" teacher hiring initiative.

It’s dumb but a ceremony for interested kids is fine. Not in a speech at graduations. The audience was so restless and confused.

I think the list of teachers leaving the school was a big message as to why not to work for MCPS. Many teachers were leaving before full retirement. MCPS is not a good career choice.

Yes I understand that. This one, Harris, have quite a lengthy speech beforehand. The official language is very clear.
