DP, but to avoid giving platforms for crazy people, even if their successors were so crazy that they now seem normal by comparison. No, they're not decent people at all.
I'm sure he gave a nice speech - 99% of people could pull up a nice speech on the internet. Doesn't make him a good person or a role model for the kids.


Only by your narrow definition is he crazy or not a good person. I’ve known and liked him for years. He’s done more with his life than I’m guessing you’ll ever do.

I'm a hardcore Democrat. And I think Paul Ryan's a little nutty with the Ayn Rand worship and all that. But I can't see any issue with him being an commencement speaker anywhere. I'd be totally fine with it. And I would welcome his perspective.

He is an SAES parent to a graduating senior and a junior. Though he is certainly high profile, he seems a conservative choice for SAES.

I'm more curious what his connection is to the school? High schools don't usually get high-profile speakers without their being some connection, like Jose Andres' daughter being at Stone Ridge.
