+2 to loving KAH. They're really flexible in terms of cancellation, so get anything you think you might need now.

Our location seems to be mixed grades, but with some limitations. Our kindergartner mostly seems to be with K and 1st grade. The morning seems to be largely free play and then the afternoon has an activity and a lot of free play. The kids all seem to love it, mine complains that I picked her up too early at least once a week.

Yes, it’s free play, mixed grades, and they’ll dismiss the students to their classes at the school’s arrival time. I doubt they’ll take the students to their classrooms, but there are always lots of school staff around at the beginning of the school year to help kids get to the right class. If you do aftercare, there’s usually snack time, homework time, a planned activity, and free play. Word to the wise — if you enroll your child in before or aftercare, the company will more than likely require their own set of heath forms, so save a copy of the forms you submit/submitted to the school for enrollment to give to KAH.


Also, OP, you need to sign up for KAH now, if it's still available there. It can fill up quickly. The good news is that in our many child-years of KAH, for before/aftercare, learning hubs, and camp, it's outstanding. We're not at Farmland, but every interaction we've had with them has been terrific.

My kid attended KAH at Fairland for spring break a few years ago. I don't know if the director there is still the same, but she was great and had fun activities planned as well as plenty of free play.

Generally, my experience is that the beforecare providers take the kids to the playground or gym, which is where everyone lines up before headed to the classroom. So they meet up with the walkers and bus riders in that space and then are led down to the classroom by their teacher every morning.

Montgomery County is so large that is really is school dependent. Is your child registered? If so, the school website will have most of your answers. I would also ask neighbors about before/after care or just ask here with your child's school.

Your school might have a host a program from one of the before and aftercare providers (there's a few of them depending on what school you're at). If you search the name of the school and "after care" you might get it, or you could post the name of the school here and someone might know. I know there's at least Kids After Hours, KidsCo, and Bar-T, but there might be others.

Elementary schools either start at 9:00 and end at 3:25, or start at 9:25 and end at 3:50.

Check with your assigned school. There are two different bell schedules for elementary schools as there are two bus runs for that age group. 1 starts at 9, the other about 9:30. The school will also have info on their contracted before/after care and any other options. For example, our school the onsite was usually full so there were two other programs with bus service.
