Oh that would’ve been smart. It’s actually being used by a not for profit. Google maps.

They should consider reopening Broome middle school on Twinbrook Parkway.

We have a 2nd grader, and have been happy here. There is an active PTA that sponsors a lot of events throughout the year. The administration is friendly and accessible and fosters a culture of inclusion. Mrs. West sends out weekly email newsletters and staff uses a mobile app called ClassDojo to communicate with parents.

There are a lot of after school club options, and the before/aftercare provider Kids After Hours is great.

Yes, there are concerns about overcrowding. I think it has less to do with class sizes per se (if you go through that link above, you're not gonna find many MCPS public schools with consistently small classes). The school was only built a few years ago and the superintendent's office has been way off on projections from the start. The building and grounds have little capacity to add more classrooms to account for our enrollment increasing far faster than expected (we had new students arrive every month this year). So we are likely going to end up with a portable or two next year.

It's overcrowded and our child is not going to get a lot of attention. Go somewhere else.

Welcome to the community! School is now above 800 students and probably bigger next year, with portables to be placed over winter break 2022-2023 and loss of special spaces inside the school in order to make more classrooms. So yes it is already overcrowded! OP if you haven't already PLEASE register your kid(s) now since staff allotments are made based on enrollment numbers by end of June. This year K and 3 had ~30 kids per class (except Chinese Immersion, which is capped). Overall I would say there are good things about the school but also lots of room for improvement. You can always reach out to principal with questions or there's a PTA facebook group and email list.

Bayard Rustin is a very large school with over 700 students, but it is not overcrowded. The building was constructed only 4 years ago and accommodates 790 students. There are many other schools which are overcrowded in MCPS, sometimes with a dozen portable classrooms taking over their fields or paved play areas, but BRES isn't one of them.

Lots to love - great community, love the teachers and admin, and very diverse student body. There is definitely overcrowding.
