This is OP. My mom was not as excited about Barbuzzo as I was - I will try it on another trip. We went to Charlie was a Sinner and had great cocktails. The food was good, but not amazing - I would still recommend it, it just wasn’t life changing. Portions were generous. I am not a dainty eater and we had olives, 3 small plates, 1 dessert and we were satisfied. The waitress recommended 2-3 per person.

The lemon cake dessert was nice in that it was a reasonable portion - not huge. It was a little dense, but I think it was vegan.

Another fan of Barbuzzo!! The pizza was so good and so was the sheep's milk ricotta.

Totally forgot about this little gem until you posted. I lived around the corner for a good chunk of my 20s and 30s https://www.mythaiphilly.com/

What are some restaurants that are good and likely to have open tables on a Sunday night. We eat everything, but my mom is partial to Thai, French, Seafood, Mediterranean, and Vegan (veg heavy). We will be in sundresses or linen pants and a blouse - so not shorts, but not date night dressed up.

Monks for mussels/seafood and good Belgian beers if that is interesting to you

Kaliya for Thai

Kanella for Mediterranean

The caramel budino at Barbuzzo is something I remember vividly 10 years later!

Barbuzzo is Mediterranean and it’s my favorite restaurant in Philly. The food is amazing and they have both indoor and outdoor seating. It’s also relatively close to the convention center. They have great pizzas, pastas, fish, appetizers, and dessert.

The same people who own Barbuzzo have an Italian-American place around the corner called Little Nonna’s. The food is a little heavier but also very good, and they usually have fish and vegetarian pastas on the menu.

Across the street from Barbuzzo is a vegan restaurant called Charlie was a Sinner - I have not been there but have heard great things, and apparently the cocktails are also excellent if that’s of interest.

I think that between these three, at least one will seat you on a Sunday evening. Barbuzzo can sometimes be hard but it’s not crazy and they have a waitlist. There’s also a Mexican place, El Vez, across the street - it’s a Stephen Starr place and also very good.
