I regularly shop at Wegmans and have for years. Lately I have noticed that fresh produce goes bad long before the sell by date. My fridge is new so that's not the issue.

I ran into a Food Lion for convenience (nothing against FL, I just don't live near one) on the way home from DC's practice and the produce I picked up lasted far longer (and cost far less) than the Wegmans produce.

DH refuses to shop at Wegmans even though we live super close to the Chantilly location. I love the store but he won't budge, saying they are overpriced compared to Giant, Trader Joe's.

SOME of their products are a ripoff. (The giant tub of perfect chocolate chip cookies.) Most of their stuff is fairly priced and very high-quality.

I bought the tub without looking at the price. Yikes! But they were excellent. I put them in a different container so we could forget about the price and just enjoy. I will buy them again for special occasions when I do not have time to bake.

DP and agreed that some of their stuff is pricey--but as in the case of the cookies, they're also so, so good that they're worth the splurge. Some of their things are bargains, such as the various Wegmans brand items (cheese, pasta sauce, yogurt, hummus--their hummus is amazing) that I feel like it evens out.

Also, DH is from Western NY, so it's worth it to get some of the items local to there, like Sahlen's hot dogs. I realize that's very specific.

Ha! I'll have to try that next time.

I think Giant's food bar is good. So glad it's back up and running. Love that noodle salad (I forget what they call it).

Yeah, WTF chocolate chip cookies for $16? I laughed when I saw that. Other than stuff like that the things I need and but regularly are well-priced and of great quality.

Food bars are always expensive. It’s not something exclusive to Wegmans. What a bizarre complaint from OP.
We use Wegmans as our grocery store and are very happy with it. I find it much better than Giant, Safeway and HT.

Food bars are always a huge ripoff.

Having said that, if youre going to a food bar Wegmans tastes the best and great variety.

Grocery shopping there is fine as long as you stick with the housebrands. Their bakery, meat, and produce are way over priced

Wait has the food bar reopened? Now I know where I’m going today! That’s the real takeaway from this post lol.

Let me see if I have this situation correct. You purchased ONE thing from Wegmans (assorted items from the Asian food bar), are whining about the lack of toiletries (which no grocery store ever has a good supply of) and have now decided that the entire store sucks?

That's a you problem.

But hey, more of the Wegmans' awesomeness (bakery, cheese department, Wegmans brand items, deli, flowers, bulk candy, pre-packaged meals, and on and on) for the rest of us!

The price per pound is the same as whole foods. If you're paying per pound, you have to be careful.

I don't live near a Wegmans, but I've heard people rave about it enough that when I was finishing a client visit near one, I decided to pick up lunch there. I generally don't like food bars where you pay by weight, because you end up spending a lot of money for water-heavy items and sauce. Wegmans was $14.99/pound. I figured I would judiciously sample a few items from the Asian food bar. One eggroll. A couple of pieces of sesame chicken bites. Half a spoonful of rice.

My friends, this cost me $17.

I blame the eggroll, because I guess fried dough is heavy. I could have had an entire meal at a restaurant for this price. Even Whole Foods is less expensive. Also, I wanted to pick up a couple of personal care items, but the toiletries section was minimal. Will still have to make a separate trip to Target or a corner pharmacy.

Remind me why people rave about Wegmans so much?
