This is so false!!! My kid got one and they’ve failed their SOLs (or one of them) for every year at the school (minus pandemic year). They still got one this year and they most certainly didn’t Pass Advanced.

They have two types of Presidential Awards - Excellence and Achievement. The latter is for improvement and the first is for academic excellence.

You basically know that if you get this award, your kid is headed to Harvard. They really put a lot of emphasis on this award in admissions

I know a kid who failed SOL (1 subject) at least 2 times and still got this award.


Mine failed the SOLs in previous years and got it. I have no idea what the criteria for this award is but would love to know.

Yes, to the bolded. It usually takes a report card with more 4s than 3s and a pass advanced on at least one SOL from the previous year. At my kids' AAP center, 80-90% of the AAP kids receive this award.
