Uh, this is PP - in what way are "sports camps and weekly summer practices" roaming freely? Please tell me how I can get this roaming to work so I can avoid driving her there every day. LOL.

My rising HS senior and his 13 years old brother are going to Lifetime fitness everyday and work out there from 8am-12pm everyday, including Saturday and Sunday. They begin this routine yesterday. The rising HS has the incentive to train his younger brother because he will get a new Tesla Model 3 from me this fall if his younger is getting in shape by August 22nd.

He works out with my husband at our gym (which has an indoor track). They have some program where, as long as a kid completes 4 sessions with a gym trainer, they can go with their own parent after that.

If you live in Northern Virginia check out Capstone. (start in Falls Church and train the Arlington soccer teams, bet have expanded significantly in the northern Virginia area and expanded sports ). They have a ton of great conditioning classes. My kids get a ridiculous workout but leave with a smile

I have kids 12 and under and I also don't think there is a an opportunity to get out of shape. They play their club sport all year round, including a less intense summer league. They will also have a few camps in a few different sports. Otherwise, they have a once a week strength trainer and run on their own at once a week but they do this is all year round. They do occasionally hang out with friends in the neighborhood and play sports in the park but that is very sporadic. When they are not in a camp, they are in the backyard playing their sport (and other things) with each other.

She is 13, right? Or maybe even only 12? Don’t worry about it - hopefully she is riding bikes, swimming at the neighborhood pool, and walking around the city with friends. More important is that she drives the train in middle school. If she is asking to do more, sign up for a sports camp. There is plenty of time to get “in shape” for game play once she is through puberty. Wouldn’t push it now. You are inviting injury.

We have to find organized things for them to go to. Working out on their own or getting together with friends for pick up games or to train will not happen on a regular basis.

They have done speed and agility, clinics and small group training in the summer, which is their off session. Small group training as in we find a college student to work out with them and friends. They like it and are more motivated to go since it’s a set time.

My kids never get out of shape. The play a club sport that lasts half the summer, go to camps, run on their own (and DD goes to a conditioning program), and then start practice again in late August.

McDonalds. Beer. Cigarettes. And run 3 miles a day. That’ll do the trick.

What does she need to be fit for? I'd use that sport as the motivation.

Do you have a peloton? My rising 7th grader likes to use that - they have a lot of great strength programs. Also, +1 on summer rec sports. I do see my neighbor training his kids in the summer. They do track so he is outside making them run on our street with a stopwatch.

I have 2 middle schoolers and neither is very motivated to work out on their own- just not something they find fun. Others may definitely be different.

Both play a rec sport in the summer (summer swim team for one, basketball for the other) for general enjoyment and to keep active.

I have seen things like speed/agility training classes for this age in my area. If you Google you may find something like that she would do?

We remind them to do their daily pushups and sit-ups , usually they do. But mine do better with scheduled activity and aren’t really motivated to work out on their own by themselves.

DD (rising 7th) needs to be in shape come August. Wondering if there are things that have worked for your tween. I don't see her independently following a workout routine from the internet, but maybe I'm underestimating her.
