My DC wound up with an 89.8 and was thrilled to get an A-. (All other grades are As). I guess it's all about perspective.

My kid had 92.5 or 92.7 in 7th grade english and got A-. It may very well have costed TJ, though every other course, including 8th grade english was an A or even A+ level (A+ doesn't exist, but marks were well above baseline 93 for an A).

Speaking from personal experience, it can take her to dark places if left untreated.
