DP daycares can offer whatever hours they want, and parents can seek other care if it doesn't work for their schedules. And it can vibe very frustrating to have to find a new provider.

The reason people pay so much for daycare is to have coverage while they work-during business hours. That's why daycare has always been a bit before and a bit after business hours. Not everybody has a flexible job. Like the ones of us in healthcare who depend on daycare.

I’m the PP you’re responding to and I am in healthcare as well. I haul ass down 395 with my body in complete flight or fight every day. I don’t LIKE the policy changes, but I understand them. We would have selected another center but this is the only one on our budget

Yeppppp!!!! Ours is refusing to change the hours back and the COVID policy is pretty draconian. We feel trapped because they are all having these issues. Have done the nanny thing and don't want to go back. Ugh.

We are at federal center that people rave about and are on waitlists for years. Staffing has gone downhill and I’ve heard teachers have figured out how to game the system so they are taking 1-2 days a week of covid leave to check on symptoms. This is leaving other teachers in a lurch and covering multiple classes (even if they say it’s against policy to prevent cross contamination). The good teachers are angry and the ones who abuse the system face no consequences because they are following the “rules” and won’t be fired since they are in dire need of more staff.

Sounds like you need a new daycare. Sorry, that sucks. Unless this is a national chain like Bright Horizons, nobody there is making the big bucks. In general most child care is subsidized by the workers themselves who work for very low wages.

Yep. Our daycare switched from 7 am- 6 pm precovid to 8 am-5 pm. They still haven’t switched back! They don’t have staffing because the management sucks but they won’t admit it. They didn’t cut prices and we got two less hours a day. We’re leaving soon.

Find a new daycare. Not all of the are this stupid

A staffing issue for 2+ years? When they are fully staffed (said by them). Do you have a toddler? A toddler with a runny nose isn't sick. That's just their baseline. Daycares know this and it's never been a problem before (this is my third kid in this daycare). All the parents are annoyed. If toddlers stayed home for a runny nose there would be nobody in the class.

Does anyone else feel like daycares are taking advantage of COVID? For example-our daycare used to be open until 6:30 which was a big deal since some parents worked until 6 (including me). They changed it to 6 because of COVID and just never changed it back. They are fully staffed and there doesn't seem to be any reason not to have normal operating hours. Also-sending kids home for coughing one time, having excessive runny noses etc...this is just par for the course for toddlers.

It's frustrating as tuition just keeps going up with less and less benefits.
