We are a family of 4 (but the youngest is just 2 so barely counts) and we spend about 1200 on groceries and 500 on eating out. Food is expensive. 1000 seems average.

$250 a week for three sounds reasonable. If it's too much for you consider splitting a Costco membership with a friend and buying things that don't expire from there.

That’s what we (fam of 3) try to stick to as well. Lower if we can but 1k is the normal budget

We are also a family of three and spend slightly more than that, to my partner’s ongoing chagrin! Feels like we throw out a lot of leftovers. We’re not eating caviar but our grocery store branch is fancy and the toddler eats ridiculous sums of berries. It’s the berries for us

Inflation - heard of it? I picked up 3 organic tomatoes for $5 the other day. It is what it is.

That’s a lot compare to us.

We spend that much as a family of 4 with teens, but we're frugal, cook mostly from scratch, finish our leftovers and rein in the processed and packaged food consumption. Shop at WF, TJ and Hmart for our Asian needs. It's harder now with inflation.

Well it’s $11/day per person. We spent about the same for four people but we do eat out a lot too.

Op here. Thanks, good to know! I don't know why it just seems like an excessive amount for three (well, two adults and a child)!

Our family of three spends that much, easily, but I have no discipline at the Whole Foods and I never add it up to know for sure.

Is this normal? It's just DH, DS5 and I. I am trying to see where our money is going and was shocked at what we are spending at the store. I think we are buying some 'back ups" but this is becoming too much!
