I did not participate their Christmas and teacher appreciation classroom collective cash for giftcard to classroom teacher, but I personally send her $100 giftcard on each occasion. Classroom parents did not know about that. I also send other staffs generous giftcards. End of school year gift never crosses my mind. I give them giftcards because my child is special need, and I want them to be more patience and understanding. I don't think they really care much about my child, but I also understand my child is handful.

Good grief, you’re probably being asked to give $5 -$20 …. Is that too much to ask for the person who works their tail off to educate your child? You probably spend that much on coffee and donuts in a day or two.
I find teachers to be appreciative of whatever you are able to do. We usually do a holiday time gift and will participate in whatever group thing is happening in the Spring - contribute to the TA luncheon, or collection for Gift Cards or whatever. If you have something nice to say about the teacher a thank you note copied to the principal is always a good gift.
