No, that was terrible. It meant that anyone who moved to Arlington after K had absolutely no chance at any option program. So military, state department, foreign service, lots of those families in Arlington, were unfairly disadvantaged. If a school is important enough to a family, they can keep applying each year. It’s also better for most this way, too, for everyone except those who got a low number for the lottery in K it’s a possible chance.

Agreed way more equitable.

I agree with this, but for clarity's sake the reduction from 6 Claremont kindergarten classrooms down to 4 happened for SY 21-22. If you don't like it, email the school board. engage@apsva.us. I don't know that it will change anything for you, but if they get feedback this is a program parents want they could change this for future years. I encourage you to apply again via lottery in 1st grade. You can still start immersion without any language background in 1st trade. I know people who moved away during kindergarten and the summer after kindergarten. I also know one family that had an older child at another ES and found it too difficult to have kids at separate elementary schools. GL!

Is it a kindergarten slot? If it is your child has a pretty good chance of getting in. First grade and above, not so much.

The waitlists will move more in August- families that move over the summer will finally put in the transfer paperwork, etc. I think you have a chance for ATS is you are willing to accept an opening right before school starts or right after. You have no chance at immersion at 40. We were in the teens last summer and never got a spot. Don't listen to anyone with a rising 2nd grader or older- they used to have 6 classes in each grade but they switched to 4 last year. That's nearly 50 less seats.

Also on waitlists and have been wondering how much movement there will be. What a process LOL

it's basically done. people have to rescind their spots if they accept another lottery item, so you are looking for people moving away or going private.

the mass exodus of COVID moved forward a lot of potential movers, so the people who are in and in lottery are likely not going anywhere.

#6 has a decent chance.

It would have happened by now, people have committed. Very few people are moving now that summer is here.

Isn’t the lottery annual now, so they can’t carry the #6 until 5th grade?

Yes it’s annual but I don’t agree that people aren’t still moving around. Lots of people apply for multiple schools so if one slot opens up anywhere it has a domino effect. I got in to ATS last year in the high teens
