Our school started off a bit lax in the fall - I think because they knew the kids were still adjusting from the pandemic - but they really locked down after winter break. Even my rule-following kid got in trouble for something minor.
Perhaps you think it's minor, but if 1,100 other kids were also doing it, it would be a problem for the school staff.
NP. Maybe that’s true but it’s a huge difference. A friend of mine got a phone call because her son was “involved in a bullying incident.” Later she learned from a parent that his role in the bullying incident (three kids calling another kid stupid, I think) was making the comment that started the whole thing. The comment was something like “only one person on the slide at a time.” The teacher thought it was ridiculous that the parents said he was “involved in a bullying incident.” My friend, by the way, is not white.
And we got an email from the school that they would be taking far more serious disciplinary measures.
So yeah I dunno.

It's rare I believe someone in the comments on social media but this time I actually do believe this mom. The red flags are all there and yet APS fails to take action. I blame them and I blame the community of Arlington for creating this environment where any attempt at consequences and discipline is loudly shot down as being wrong, racist, conservative, republican, trumpist, not inclusive, student shaming, and so on EVEN when none of those things are true. The community will have no one but themselves to blame if there is ever an incident like we have seen elsewhere.
As an APS parent, these past couple months based on incidents at schools, I have given serious thoughts to calling that hotline the governor set up. Not to report issues with teaching but to report the fact that APS doesn't take issues of violence, threats and crime seriously because I feel there is no one at all in the schools or the county who will listen and act until something really bad happens.

Do it. Arlington county politicians live in an echo chamber. No one is holding them accountable. People here vote blue no matter who.
