It's a lot easier for peeing to have a two piece. But I would never do a bikini top. A tankini or rashguard is cute.

My 10 YO wants one but I'm not a big fan. Mostly for the increased amount of sunblock I have to force her to put on. We compromised on a tankini that shows 2-3 inches of stomach.

+1 My DD has a mix of rash guards, two pieces, and one pieces, but nothing that looks remotely sexual or like a it was designed for an adult body and then just made in a kid size.

We decided on a tankini, I guess sometime around the 13 year age will be somewhat ok?

My 9yo DD wears a rash guard and bikini style bottom for swim team practice but wears a rashguard with board shorts for just playing. I don’t like bikinis on young children, I think I’m a prude though, apparently my kid is too though so it worked out, lol.

OP, my daughter is 10 and finishing 4th grade. She and I both decided "not yet" this summer. For me, growing up, it was the summer I was 12, after 6th grade--6th grade was ES for me and is for my kids as well. I think 12 is probably where we will end up, too. I see tons of girls of all ages in bikinis though. I just think it looks silly--not trashy or anything.

I do rash guard and a bottom in 2 piece for my girl, not bikini style.

If it keeps her from getting a wedgie, go for it. Some tankini styles with coverups are MORE conservative than high-cut one-pieces. Assuming you're talking swimwear?

I mean, I have a two piece for my 2yo -- it's shorts and a rash guard -- for easier bathroom access and less sunscreen needing to be applied. So I'm not sure if the question you're asking is "when is a 2 piece okay?" (any time) or "when is a bikini style bathing suit okay?" (ranges from any time to never depending on the parent -- personally I'd say when the kid wants one but probably not before 10 but I also wouldn't necessarily notice or judge another parent at the pool for making a different choice).
