They want you to repair at their shop. Most of MD inspection stations are repair shops.

Where did you take the car to? Some of these places that do inspections as a way to get business.

A pair of brake rotors, *maybe* a caliper, some pads, and a wheel hub? You can do that yourself in your driveway in about 2 hours (max) for less than $600 on most cars. The rear seat anchor thingy is similarly cheap to replace.

OP here, thanks all! Brought the car into our regular maintenance guy who agreed that the repairs needed were far more minimal than the inspection location suggested.

Going forward with the repairs and will get it reinspected at a different location.

What do you mean, the brakes were replaced? Pads? Rotors? We’re the calipers serviced and pins lubed? If not, you might have a seized caliper. Not a major repair. Neither is a hub.

Take it somewhere else and have it reinspected. I had an old Mercedes inspected and they wanted me to replace all kinds of stuff on it including the metal frame of the bumper (the plastic part went over it) and I took it somewhere else and it passed. Some places are just out for a money grab. Seriously.

The seatbelt sounds like a true safety issue as do the brakes overheating.

Op here, we are new MD residents. It’s a 10 year old car that’s been regularly serviced. We were told the car is not drivable due to issues with the wheel hub, wheel bearing and that the front brakes are overheating.

The brakes were replaced last summer :-/

Also due to toddler food in the seatbelt click thingy those need to be custom replaced…ugh

Yes, you can trade in a car that failed MD inspection (or donate it). Inspection is only required in MD when registering the car again.

Why did you get inspection done? It's not required if you already have it registered here.

Recommended repairs are more that it’s worth…

Can I trade it in? I just want to be done with it.
