I grew up in schools without AC and the last few weeks were agony and I remember the classes getting in trouble constantly for not paying attention. Did we survive? Of course. Did we learn anything? I really doubt it…

And classrooms have 25 people in there so that body heat definitely ticks up the temperature even further.


Whichever posters think its fine to work and learn in these conditions are welcome to wring out my shirt at the end of the day and drink the excess sweat from teaching all day in this heat.

And then there’s my school where kids are bundled up in hoodies because it’s so cold. 🤦‍♀️

Agree most will likely be fine. However I think the original point was outrage on leaders/agencies being able to fix problems, the inflated Ed budget where does that $ go, and lack of will to change etc

In DC? It's 94 degrees outside, and in a classroom with windows and insufficient blinds (many of them) and nothing moving the air, it could easily be 100 degrees.

That's not okay, especially for little kids.

I pass out from overheating and all my public schools in NY had A/C.

Heard Philly schools had to close due to heat. I’m not saying we should close I’m saying we shouldn’t let the state of air conditioners dictate how well students receive education

+1, it's absolutely ridiculous. I'm guessing both the Mayor's office and DCPS Central Office have both had A/C this week, and if they hadn't, they would have fixed it immediately and sent people home until it was done.

How is this possible? Don’t want to share school bc I know that gets others in trouble who have nothing to do with lack of AC. Can’t believe we spend 2billion in Ed in dc and have this. I blame everyone from the top down
