What does one thing have to do with another? You will have bigger issues with your school down the road if you feel like asking legitimate questions about curriculum will make you a pariah. It also says something about the school that asking a basic question one time did not yield a straightforward answer.

Would like to keep both - systematic phonics instruction is 30 minutes at the most and (big secret) it’s kind of boring for your early readers…

I would just plan to supplement no matter what. Even if they are changing curriculum, it is going to take time for teachers to adjust to the new methods.

Arlington County is - they are adopting a new ELA curriculum based on the science of reading. Fairfax County is doing the same. Perhaps email your super intendant’s office to see if Alexandria is.

Why don't you just call the school and ask?

Lucy Calkins is an absolute idiot as are the school systems who fell for her crappy program and continued to use it even when year after year they produced more and more students who couldn’t read.

Does anyone know if ACPS has already or will be transitioning away from F&P and Lucy Calkins literacy curriculum for K-2 language arts? And if ACPS will be transitioning - how soon will it be? I believe that FCPS has moved to Science of Reading and DRA.
