None of the Ward 3 candidates were in a public position when closings were happening.

This. OP, what would you base this on? Someone's social media history? There's a difference between being a keyboard warrior gadfly and actually having to make life and death decisions and live with the consequences.

How about asking the question differently....in the face of no vaccine and a raging pandemic, does it make sense to put people together in a place where a deadly virus can spread more readily?

Based on everything else that was open while schools remained closed, yes. Why could I go to a packed bar but my kid could not sit in class just shows how messed up our priorities are.

Bars open, schools closed was the worst policy ever.

Tricia Duncan wanted kids back in school when it was still an open battle between those who wanted to return (let alone stay in school) and those who wanted perpetual virtual learning.

There was a vaccine when some were suggesting that we shut the schools back down.

I don't have a problem with the initial lockdown decision. I do have a problem with the abortive attempt to shut schools back down after they were reopened.

Well, given that Matt Frumin received the WTU endorsement, I’d infer that he definitely did not oppose the closures.

DC public schools were almost entirely closed to in-person learning from March 2020 until August 2021. This was especially an issue in Ward 3, where there was great demand for live teaching. Did any of the current Ward 3 candidates for City Council openly push for reopening?

Can anyone can point me to a public statement or action by one of the Ward 3 candidates, while schools were closed, pushing for reopening? (I mean statements at the time schools were closed, not after the fact. And I don't mean the common rhetoric that we heard from so many city officials of "Schools should be reopened, but only once these thousand impossible conditions are met.") Considering what a disaster many Ward 3 parents considered the closures to be, it's surprising this issue isn't getting more attention.
