So...if you can get a job......you can get a conditional license even if you haven't done a teacher preparation program. And then you can do Moreland TeachNow or other way to get the coursework within the 2-5 year time frame. Is that correct?

I am a conditionally certified MCPS elementary teacher. The new regs give you 5 years to complete the certification requirements. One way to complete the coursework is to do Moreland's TeachNow program. Warning: it is intense to do on top of a full time teaching schedule. It isn't hard - just a fair amount of coursework on top of teaching. It is a 9 month program. Managing the coursework on top of being a new teacher is a lot - people do it but if you have your own school age kids (like I do) it is hard to do.

Yes you're good, apply and get your certificate within 2 years, mcps pays for it

I know someone in their 3rd year of teaching with a conditional license with zero praxis exams taken.

Teachers from the Philippines are very well trained and except for how to deal with the poor behavior of American students.

Renewing this thread because I have some questions about getting jobs at MCPS.

Is it possible to get a conditional license and a related position with a) Praxis subject text; c) Praxis core or GPA requirement? Does one have to have already attended a teacher preparation program in order to get the conditional license (even if teaching higher level secondary course and have masters in that subject)?

You can skip the Praxis Core if you have a high enough SAT/ACT score (maybe GRE..not sure) OR a 3.0 on your last degree earned. You will still need to take a PLT Praxis based on grade level and then if you're teaching elementary, a Teaching Reading test..if high school, a content test.

I believe you get 2 years after you pass the Praxis I but you must be taking coursework towards a specific area and pass the Praxis II within the 2 years

Ask HR. They need teachers. I’ve transferred schools taking a position split between departments with the agreement that I would pass the praxis for the content area that I wasn’t certified for. (Had to show I was signed up for the test before they assigned me the job.)

Is it possible to get hired as a teacher in MCPS conditionally if I have a bachelors in early childhood education but haven’t passed a praxis test yet?
