I knew a former restaurant employee who said they definitely do that (i.e., semen in dip!!!)

I've always heard that kitchen staff to terrible things to your food if you send it back, but honestly I'm not sure that's true - they probably don't care enough to do that.

The reason I don't send food back is that I'm hungry, the people at my table are already eating theirs and I'll be holding them up later, and I don't care that much to wait around for a better meal. However, I WILL leave them a negative review if it's not right the first time.

You don’t really understand how restaurants work, do you? The cook is going to spit in your food for sending it back not once but twice! They have a whole line of orders they need to keep moving. I would have brought it up with the manager later or done a review. Not keep sending it back. That’s a bad idea. People piss in your soup and spit in your food if you’re a pain in the ass.

You must be either really young or have very little experience going to restaurants if you were gobsmacked by this. It's pretty standard.

Honestly, you are lucky if wiping off the old sauce is all they did. Never send anything back unless you really need to. And then apologize profusely.

Recently went to a well reviewed restaurant for a special occasion. My steak was not cooked as I ordered and I asked if they would throw it back on grill for a minute or two. This steak comes with chimichurri but I asked that it be on the side because I am one of those people for whom cilantro tastes very "off." Well, when the server brought my steak back, the kitchen had dumped the chimichurri on the steak (I left it in the side cup). For what I was paying, I wasn't going to attempt to wipe off the cilantro and informed the server of what happened. They apologized and said they would get me a new steak. Five minutes later, steak comes back and it looks an awful lot like the one I sent back. I directly asked the server if it was the same steak and he said it was not. I flipped the steak over and there was chimichurri/cilantro on the bottom. I asked for the manager and first thing he said was the server lied to me. They gave me a new steak and comped it but I honestly wasn't in the mood to eat it at that point.

Am I wrong to think this was a big F U from the kitchen for asking that my steak be cooked as ordered? Is it common practice to wipe off an unwanted topping and bring it back? What if it was something I am allergic to? I have never had an experience like this and still a bit gob smacked by it.
