The American Indian is my husband's favorite place to eat a the Smithsonian, and my kids like it too. I really don't care - I'm not there for the food.

My 6 and 9 year olds were super bored at the American History museum, so don't do that one. Natural History is cool, as is Udvar Hazy. I would not do more than one museum at a time. Kids get tired and bored, even at the Natural History museum.

Also, they won't care about food. Buy them the lame chicken tenders in the mall cafeteria, kids don't care.

I would say the African American museum and American Indian museum are tied for best food.

I would do the natural history museum and the postal museum. American history might be boring for them. Lots of exhibits were closed the last time I was at Natural History though.

natural history is best for little kids.

Sometimes the art museums have programs for younger kids and those are really fun.

I'm an adult and three museums in two days would be too much. Both children are too young for this much "museuming". Personally, if open, I would choose Air and Space.

If the main consideration is what the 3 and 6 year old would like to do I would plan to only go to the Natural History Museum. There is plenty to see there and the attention spans will run out before you get through all of the exhibits. There's a good chance the metro ride will be the highlight of the day.

I would try to get by with just a bookbag with water and snacks, but you can bring a stroller if you want. Food options are limited, your best bet might be a food truck hot dog or soft pretzel to bridge the gap.

Only do 2 museums in a day. And you won't get through the whole museum - choose what you want to see or what sounds fun to the kids. Mine (6) loved Natural History.

We ate at the cafe in the sculpture garden (they have a couple of kid friendly options). We were able to sit outside as the weather was nice. Use the mobile order if you want to skip the line.

For 3 and 6, plan on only two. Neither Natural History nor American History have great cafeterias; I'd plan to eat between museums somewhere near the Mall.

We are bring 2 kids (3 and 6) to dc Smithsonian museums for this weekend, and we plan to take metro. Should we take a stroller? Do they allow stroller & water bottle/snacks in backpack?
