Agreed, the Twitter thread by Kevin Carey is genius… Carey really has a solid understanding of Chris Whittle’s sketchy history. He should’ve been consulted for the Washington Post article.

I’m curious as to if Whittle has some connections to major publications like the Washington Post. Why else would they fail to properly cover the school’s many problems? And take so long to publish anything? This situation could literally be made into a Netflix documentary.

I agree that's the key takeaway, though the article comes across as more positive than I think is objectively warranted, particularly in how the school can be viable going forward in light of all of its debt, even if they ever did get financing, and whether there truly is any connection left to the schools in China.

Has the Washington Post become a PR agency?...This is going down as one of the biggest frauds in NW DC history and the Washington Post lets a bunch of cute kids on tricycles mislead them and talk them out of mentioning over 30 lawsuits, writs, judgements and a history of being sued for fraud in DC for the same exact venture. The article doesn’t even mention the mountain of lawsuits filed by contractors and vendors for non-payment. A pattern of non-payment that apparently long preceded the pandemic. Trash coverage from the Post.

I see the original thread is locked, which maybe was reasonable since it recently devolved into an argument about public schools. But are there any updates? Does the school have funding for next year?
